Iona will head on the road in the latter half of the first week of men’s college basketball to take on Hofstra at the David S. Mack Sports and Exhibition Complex in Hempstead, New York, on Friday night. The Pride come into this weekend with a win already under their belt, taking down Old Westbury in the team’s first game of the season earlier this week. It wasn’t a breakaway game, despite them winning by 27 points. Old Westbury had the game knotted even at the halftime break, 34-34, but couldn’t match the same energy in the second half. Three of the starting five players for Hofstra ended in double figures, including sophomore Jean Aranguren, who had 25 points, five rebounds, and three assists. The Iona transfer dominated in his first game with his new team after averaging just 8.1 points per game last season. Cruz Davis, the St. John’s transfer, also had a dominant game with 19 points, seven rebounds, and eight assists.

The Gaels weren’t as lucky in their first game dropping their season opener on the road against Princeton earlier this week, 81-80. Iona went into the halftime break with a 12-point lead and wasn’t able to keep it getting dominated in the second half. Three started ended in double figures as well as one bench player.

Adam Njie Jr. led the team with 19 points and six assists as a freshman. He was followed by Clarence Rupert. The senior guard played for Southern Illinois last season and finished his first game for Iona with 15 points and six rebounds. Dejour Reaves had 12 points, seven rebounds, and five assists in his first game transferring in from Northern Colorado.
