Jackson State will look to break a seven-game losing streak with a win against Saint Louis on Monday night in men’s college basketball.
Jackson State will take a road trip on Monday to take on Saint Louis in a non-conference game at Chaifetz Arena. The Tigers are still in search of their first win and come into Monday’s game with a record of 0-7 so far. The team’s latest game was played against Lipscomb to close out the BBN Invitational and resulted in a 77-53 loss.
Jayme Mitchell Jr. led the Tigers offensively with 15 points, while Dorian McMillian and Tamarion Hoover joined him in double figures with 10 points apiece. Hoover led on the boards with seven rebounds, while Mitchell Jr., McMillian and Shannon Grant were right behind with six rebounds each. The team struggled with its shooting, going 23-for-63 from the field, 6-for-21 from three points range and just 1-for-5 from the free throw line. If the Tigers cannot figure out how to improve upon their shooting its going to be hard to compete in the Southwestern Athletic Conference.

The Billikens bring an overall record of 4-2 into Monday’s home game and will look to build upon their two-game win streak in front of a home crowd. Last week, Saint Louis hosted Quinnipiac and UMass Lowell for the 314 Classic, winning both games with the finale being a narrow 93-90 victory over UMass Lowell. Against the River Hawks, Isaiah Swope scored a team-high 26 points, but two other Billikens joined him at the 20+ mark. Gibson Jimerson scored 24 points and Robbie Avila added 23 points to the scoreboard. Also in double digits was Kalu Anya, who finished the game with 10 points and a team-leading 10 rebounds to earn a double-double in the win.
Jackson State and Saint Louis have only met once before and it dates back to 2005 when the Billikens picked up a 69-53 win at home.
