The Kansas City Roos will travel to Colorado on Thursday for a Summit League matchup against the Denver Pioneers at Hamilton Gymnasium. The team just picked up its first conference win on Thursday against Oral Robert, winning a narrow 70-68 win on the road. Nicholas Shogbonyo led the offensive efforts for the Pioneers with 15 points while DeAndre Craig and Abdulai Fanta Kabba joined him in double figures with 13 and 10 points, respectively. Craig was just one rebound away from a double-double as he led the team on the boards with nine rebounds. The team finished the game shooting 46 percent from the field, but continues to struggle from long range, turning in a 22 percent performance from beyond the arc.

Kansas City is sitting in sixth place in the conference standings with a record of 2-5 against Summit opponents and 10-12 overall. The team will look to break a five game losing streak on Thursday after dropping a close 68-65 game to St. Thomas over the weekend. The game went back-and-forth with the score being tied six times and the lead changing eight times. The Roos trailed by six at halftime and although they outscore St. Thomas in the second half, it wasn’t enough to make up the halftime deficit. Babacar Diallo led all scorers with a 21-point performance for Kansas City and Cameron Faas joined him in double figures with 14 points. Melvyn Ebonkoli led the team on the boards with seven rebounds.

Denver and Kansas City have met 12 times in their history and the Roos hold a 7-5 advantage in the all-time series. The teams met three times last year. Kansas City won the first two meetings, but the Pioneers won 61-60 when it counted most in the conference tournament to end the Roos’ season.
