Kent State and Miami (Ohio) moving in opposite directions as MAC foes meet on Friday night

Kent State (18-8) is riding a five-game winning streak as it has improved to 8-5 in the Mid-American Conference, good for a share of fourth place. On Friday, the Golden Flashes visit second-place Miami (Ohio) (19-7), which has dropped its last two games to fall to 10-3 in conference action. The RedHawks won the first meeting between the teams, taking a 70-61 victory at Kent State on Jan. 18. Only the top eight teams qualify for next month’s MAC tournament and both teams appear to be headed for Cleveland.

The Golden Flashes held off a second-half push en route to a 91-84 win at Bowling Green on Tuesday. Jalen Sullinger scored a career-high 32 points, going a perfect 15-of-15 from the foul line, while VonCameron Davis added 22. Davis paces the team with 15.6 points per game, with Sullinger posting 14.3 points a night. Delrecco Gillespie averages 6.6 points and 7.0 rebounds.

Miami never got within double digits in the second half of a 76-66 loss at Eastern Michigan on Tuesday night. Eian Elmer led the offense with 19 points and Kam Craft tossed in 11. Craft leads the club with 14.2 points per game, with Peter Suder scoring 13.6 points a night and Antwone Woolfolk averaging 7.8 points and 5.8 boards.

The RedHawks lead the all-time series 93-60 and have won the last two meetings. Rob Senderoff is 282-172 in his 14th season at Kent State with two NCAA tournament bids, most recently in 2023. Travis Steele has a 46-44 record in his third season at Miami, which last went to March Madness in 2007.
