No. 2 UConn and Colorado look to avoid consecutive losses when they meet Tuesday at the Maui Invitational.

No. 2 UConn (4-1) tasted defeat on Monday for the first time since Feb. 20, falling in overtime to Memphis in the opening round of the Maui Invitational and ending its 17-game winning streak. The Huskies don’t have a lot of time to recover as they face previously unbeaten Colorado (4-1) in a consolation semifinal on Tuesday. UConn, the two-time defending national champion, is 145-59 under coach Dan Hurley, in his seventh season, with four straight NCAA tournament bids. The Buffaloes returned to March Madness last season, its last in the Pac-12 before returning to the Big 12. Tad Boyle is in his 15th season at the school and is 302-184 in that span.

With the game tied 92-92 and 40 seconds left in the first overtime, Hurley was hit with a technical foul for his reaction to a foul call against Liam McNeeley. Memphis hit all four free throws and went on to take a 99-97 victory. Tarris Reed Jr. finished with 22 points, 11 rebounds and three blocks and Alex Karaban added 19 points. Karaban scores 16.8 points per game and Reed averages 13.8 points and 10.0 rebounds.

Colorado also fell from the unbeaten ranks on Monday, taking a 72-56 drubbing from Michigan State. Julian Hammond III led the Buffs with 15 points and Elijah Malone added 14 as Colorado shot just 37.0 percent, including 4-of-19 (21.1 percent) from long range. Malone nets 14.0 points per game, Andrej Jakimovski puts in 12.2 points a night and averages 9.8 points and 6.2 rebounds.

Tuesday’s matchup is the first regular season meeting between the programs. UConn took a 74-67 win over the Buffaloes in the first round of the NCAA tournament in Des Moines, Iowa, on March 17, 2016.
