McNeese (24-6) long ago locked up the Southland Conference regular-season title and on Monday night looks to match the conference record for wins in a single season when it visits Stephen F. Austin (14-16) at Johnson Coliseum in Nacogdoches, Texas, on Monday night. The Cowboys are 18-1 in Southland play, one win short of the record of 19-1 set by the Lumberjacks in 2019-20. Stephen F. Austin is in its first season back in the Southland after three seasons in the Western Athletic Conference and is 7-12 in conference play.

Two free throws from Javohn Garcia with 1:19 left gave McNeese the lead for good in its 68-66 win at Lamar on Saturday, its eighth consecutive victory. Sincere Parker paced the team with 25 points in 21 minutes off the bench while Garcia finished with 10 points and four steals. Garcia scores 12.8 points per game, with Parker contributing 12.0 points a night and Joe Charles averaging 8.8 points and 6.9 rebounds.

The Lumberjacks dropped their third straight game, falling on Saturday to visiting Nicholls 94-70. Myles Jenkins led the attack with 16 points while Matt Hayman added 14. Hayman leads the club with 14.1 points per game, Keon Thompson drops 13.4 points an outing and Nana Antwi-Boasiako averages 9.1 points and 5.9 boards.

SFA leads the all-time series 48-39 after the Cowboys grabbed a 79-59 win at home on Jan. 20. Will Wade is 46-8 in his second season at McNeese, which reached the NCAA tournament last season for the first time since 2002. The Lumberjacks last played in the Big Dance in 2018 (an appearance later vacated) and was in the 2022 College Basketball Invitational. Associate head coach Tony Jasick is 6-5 since taking over as interim coach after Kyle Keller was fired on Jan. 27.
