Miami and Boston College resume ACC play on New Year’s Day at the Conte Forum.

Boston College (8-5) comes off a win as it returns to Atlantic Coast Conference play on Wednesday, hosting Miami (4-8) at the Conte Forum. The Eagles have lost their first two ACC matchups, while the Hurricanes are 0-1 in league play and come into the game off a loss at home. Miami last made the NCAA tournament in 2023, making a run to the program’s first Final Four. BC hasn’t gone to March Madness since 2009, though it did win a first round game in last spring’s NIT.

Boston College returned from a week-long break with a 78-70 win over visiting FDU on Saturday. Donald Hand Jr. powered the Eagles with 29 points and 10 rebounds while Chad Venning tossed in 18 points. Hand averages 15.3 points and 7.5 boards and Venning puts up 11.5 points per game.

The Hurricanes lost at home on Dec. 21 to Mount St. Mary’s, blowing a 10-point halftime lead in a 78-74 overtime decision. Both teams missed opportunities to end it in regulation after Jalil Bethea tied the game for Miami with a fast break layup with 1:25 left. Matthew Cleveland led the offense with 19 points while Bethea scored 17 and Lynn Kidd snared 13 rebounds. Leading scorer Nijel Pack is out with a foot injury, leaving Kidd’s 11.4 points and 7.3 rebounds leading the team. Cleveland gets 11.3 points per game.

The Eagles are 30-29 all-time against the Hurricanes and swept three games last season, including an 81-65 win in the first round of the ACC tournament. Miami will play its first game under interim coach Bill Courtney, who took over when Jim Larrañaga resigned on Thursday. Earl Grant is 57-58 in his fourth season at Boston College.
