Jaden Akins and No. 18 Michigan State will take the court in college basketball at the Schottenstein Center against Bruce Thornton and Ohio State on Friday.

Michigan State, the No. 18 ranked men’s college basketball team in the country, will travel to Columbus, Ohio on Friday night for a Big Ten Conference clash in men’s basketball. The Michigan State Spartans (11-2, 2-0) came away from non-conference play in November and December with just two losses and nine wins. They lost early in the season to former top-ranked Kansas in the State Farm Champions Classic by eight points and lost in the same month to Memphis by eight points in the Maui Invitational.

They did take down former No. 12-ranked UNC in the same tournament. They won two games in the Big Ten and three non-conference games in December, bringing a six-game winning streak into the new year. Senior guard Jaden Akins leads the team in scoring this season, averaging 13.7 points, 4.2 rebounds, and 1.8 assists per game.

The Ohio State Buckeyes (9-4, 1-1) lost three non-conference games this season. After jumping into the Top 25 rankings after a huge win over former No. 19 Texas in the Hall of Fame Series, they lost to former No. 23-ranked Texas A&M and eventually closed the first month with a loss to Pitt.

In December, they lost their other two non-conference contests to AP Top Five teams, including No. 2 Auburn and No. 4 Kentucky. They also went 1-1 in Big Ten play, losing to Maryland on the road by 24 points and beating Rutgers at home by 14 points. Junior guard Bruce Thornton is averaging 17.4 points per game, leading Ohio State through 13 games. He is also averaging 3.1 rebounds and 4.8 assists per game.
