The Michigan Wolverines battle the top-seed Auburn Tigers on Friday night with a berth in the Elite Eight on the line. The Wolverines earned a trip to the second weekend thanks to a comeback win over Texas A&M on Saturday. The Wolverines trailed by 10 points in the second half, but finished the game on a 41-19 run over the last 13:17 of the game. The late push helped the Wolverines secure a 91-79 victory and sent them to their sixth straight sweet sixteen. They did miss the tournament last season, but have made it to the sweet sixteen in each of their last six appearances. They have Roddy Gayle Jr. to thank for the return trip. Gayle Jr. had his best game of the season and it came at the right time. Gayle scored 21 points in the second half on his way to a season-high 26 points. He hit key shot after key shot and it was too much for the Aggies to handle. Now up is the top-seeded Tigers as the Wolverines look to pull off another upset.

The Tigers, though, are looking to keep that from happening as they try to get one step closer to making their second Final Four. The Tigers have been at or near the top of the rankings almost all season long, but they did stumble at the end of the regular season.

They lost three of their last four games, including a loss to Texas A&M, and came into the tournament 28-5.

They got off to a slow start in their first round game, but beat Alabama State by 20 and then shook off a halftime deficit to Creighton to beat the Bluejays 82-70.

Johni Broome has been one of the best players in the country this year averaging 18.4 points 10.7 rebounds per game. He hasn’t been as good in the first two games and he scored just eight points in the win over Creighton.
