On Sunday evening, Middle Tennessee State will hit the road to head to Alabama where the Blue Raiders will take on the UAB Blazers in non-conference basketball action at Bartow Arena. The home side Blazers come into Sunday’s contest with a record of 4-4 and will look to build on their last time out which was played in the Paradise Jam in St. Thomas against Louisiana which resulted in a 98-86 victory. Against the Ragin’ Cajuns, Alejandro Vasquez scored a game-high 25 points to lead the Blazers offensively while Yaxel Lendeborg was also in the 20-point range with an even 20 on the day. Christian Coleman also impressed with a double-double, scoring 16 points and pulling down a team-high 11 rebounds. UAB shot an impressive 8-for-10 from the free-throw line and finished the game with eight made three-pointers.

The Blue Raiders have found early success so far this season and are currently 5-2. The team’s last time out, however, resulted in a tough 80-69 loss to Bradley at the Myrtle Beach Invitational. Chris Loofe came off the bench to score a team-high 15 points while Essam Mostafa and Justin Bufford finished closely behind with 12 and 11 points, respectively. Torey Alston pulled down seven rebounds to lead on the boards for the Blue Raiders, but the team struggled to compete with Bradley under the net.

Middle Tennessee State and UAB have met 29 times in their programs’ histories and the all-time series record stands at 19-10 in UAB’s favor. The last time these two teams met was early last season and the game was closely contested. UAB ended up pulling out a 58-57 victory on the road.
