The hottest team in the Mountain West takes the court Thursday as No. 2 seed Colorado State faces 7th-seeded Nevada.

Colorado State (22-9) finished its regular season with seven straight wins to finish second in the Mountain West Conference at 16-4. On Thursday night, the No. 2-seeded Rams take on No. 7 seed Nevada (17-15) in a conference tournament quarterfinal at the Thomas & Mack Center in suburban Las Vegas. The Wolf Pack were 8-12 in Mountain West play and snapped a three-game losing streak with a first-round win on Wednesday. Colorado State is looking for a second straight NCAA tournament bid while Nevada likely needs to run the table to earn a third straight trip to March Madness. The winner takes on the victor of the UNLV-Utah State quarterfinal on Friday in the semifinals.

The Wolf Pack took care of business on Wednesday, beating No. 10 seed Fresno State 86-71 in the tournament’s first round. Kobe Sanders finished with 17 points and 10 assists, Tyler Rolison scored 15 points and Nick Davidson went for 11 points, 11 rebounds and four blocked shots. Sanders gets 15.6 points per game while Davidson averages 15.6 points and 6.5 boards.

The Rams last played on Friday, getting an 83-73 win at Boise State to end the regular season. Nique Clifford went off for 36 points and Kyan Evans added 14. Clifford averages 18.4 points and 9.7 rebounds, with Jalen Lake putting up 11.5 points per game.

After being swept in the regular season, Nevada leads the all-time series 16-14 and has lost the last three encounters. Colorado State got a 66-64 road win on Dec. 21 before picking up a 79-71 victory at home on Feb. 18. Niko Medved is 131-82 in his seventh season coaching the Rams while Steve Alford has a 113-74 mark in his sixth season with the Wolf Pack.
