Arch Madness is back as the Missouri Valley Conference tournament begins on Thursday afternoon at the Enterprise Center in St. Louis. The opening round begins with ninth-seeded Indiana State (14-17) taking on the No. 8 seed, Southern Illinois (13-18). The teams finished in a tie with Evansville at 8-12 in conference play, with the teams’ NET ratings used for seeding. The winner advances to play regular-season champion Drake in the quarterfinals on Friday. The Salukis last played in the NCAA tournament in 2007 while the Sycamores haven’t gone since 2011.

Indiana State snapped a three-game losing streak with its 95-77 victory over Southern Illinois on Sunday afternoon. Samage Teel finished with 20 points and six assists while Camp Wagner and Aaron Gray each scored 18 points, with Gray adding 11 rebounds. Teel averages 17.1 points and 5.2 assists, with Jaden Daughtry scoring 13.0 points per game and Gray averaging 9.8 points and 5.9 boards.

The Salukis, who lost five of their last six to close the regular season, fell behind by 21 by halftime. Kennard Davis Jr. led the offenses with 19 points, with Drew Steffe and Davion Sykes dropping in 12 apiece. Ali Dibba scores 16.8 points per game, Davis nets 16.3 points a night and Jarrett Hensley averages 10.6 points and 5.9 rebounds.

Southern Illinois leads the all-time series 92-54 after Sunday’s loss. Matthew Graves is in his first season at Indiana State, moving up from associate head coach after Josh Schultz moved to Saint Louis. Scott Nagy took over the Saluki program this season after nine seasons at Wright State.
