Murray State and Evansville will square off in the first round of MVC Tournament play on Thursday night in Arch Madness.

On Thursday night, 10th-seeded Evansville will take on seventh-seeded Murray State in the first round of the Missouri Valley Conference tournament in St. Louis. The Purple Aces finished the regular season with an overall record of 11-20 and a conference record of 8-12. The team lost its last three games with finale being a 62-53 defeat by Illinois State on the road. Tanner Cuff led the Evansville offense with 15 points while Connor Turnbull and Gabriel Pozzato finished closely behind with 14 and 13 points, respectively. While the team shot 45 percent from the field, it only went 3-for-14 from beyond the arc, making it difficult to keep the Cardinals within reach as the clock ticked down.

The Racers also dropped their final game of the season, losing to Belmont on the road in a 70-60 defeat. The loss dropped the team to 15-16 overall and 9-11 in conference play. Nick Ellington scored a team-high 19 points against Belmont and Jacobi Wood joined hiim in double figures with 12 on the day. AJ Ferguson pulled down eight rebounds to lead on the boards and added an additional nine points to the scoreboard, but it still wasn’t enough to close the gap with the Bruins. The team shot well from the foul line at 88 percent, but struggled from the field and long range at 33 percent and 25 percent, respectively; both marks that will need to be improved upon to have success in tournament play.

When Murray State and Evansville met during regular season play, both games were decided by four points or less with the Racers taking the first game in a 63-61 win and the Purple Aces winning the second 78-74.
