Texas State can get back over .500 with a win over Ohio in the fifth place game of the Myrtle Beach Invitational on Sunday.
Texas State (3-3) and Ohio (2-4) snapped three-game losing streaks on Friday and face-off Sunday night in a battle of the Bobcats at The HTC Center in the fifth place game of the Myrtle Beach Invitational. The Texas State Bobcats, who last played in the NCAA tournament in 1997 and participated in the 2019 CIT, were 17-18 last season and coach Terrence Johnson is 75-55 in his fifth season. The Ohio Bobcats were a March Madness participant in 2021 and reached the quarterfinals of the 2022 CBI. Jeff Boals is in his sixth year at Ohio with a 100-64 record after a 20-13 mark in 2023-24.

Tylan Pope converted a three-point play with 1:51 left to put Texas State up for good in its 83-80 win over Princeton on Friday. Tyrel Morgan scored 27 points, with Kaden Gumbs contributing 17 points and four steals. Gumbs gets 17.3 points per game, Morgan is scoring 14.3 points a night and Joshua O’Garro averages 11.7 points and 7.2 rebounds.
AJ Clayton erupted for 34 points and 12 rebounds to lead Ohio to an 85-73 win over Portland on Friday. Aidan Hadaway chipped in 13 points and Jackson Paveletzke posted a double-double with 10 points and 10 assists. Clayton averages 16.3 points and 7.0 rebounds and AJ Brown nets 13.7 points per game.
Sunday’s matchup is the first-ever between the programs.
