McNeese became the latest 12th seed to win in the NCAA tournament, takes on No. 4 seed Purdue on Saturday

One of the more well-known upset specials in NCAA tournament play is the 12th seed vs. 5th seed matchup in the first round. McNeese (28-6) became the latest No. 12 seed to advance, getting the program’s first-ever win at the Big Dance on Thursday. On Saturday afternoon, the Cowboys take on fourth-seeded Purdue (23-11) in a Midwest Regional second-round game at Amica Mutual Pavilion in Providence, Rhode Island. The Boilermakers are in their 10th straight NCAA tourney and lost in the championship game a season ago. It is McNeese’s second straight edition of March Madness after a first-round loss in 2024.
