Wyoming hosts Nevada on Wednesday night in a women’s college basketball matchup of Mountain West rivals.

Wyoming (9-7) is off to a 3-1 start in Mountain West Conference women’s college basketball action and will be at home on Wednesday night when it welcomes Nevada (8-10) to the Arena-Auditorium in Laramie. The Wolf Pack are 3-2 in conference play and 2-3 on the road, while the Cowgirls have a 5-1 mark at home. Nevada has never played in the NCAA tournament and last reached the postseason when it finished third in the 2022 Women’s Basketball Invitational. Wyoming played in the 2021 NCAA tournament and got to the Great 8 of the WNIT last spring.

The Cowgirls had a working lead for most of the fourth quarter, twice seeing it cut to two, en route to a 78-71 win over visiting San Diego State on Saturday afternoon. Allyson Fertig scored 21 points while Emily Mellema added 18 to go with six steals. Fertig averages 18.2 points and 9.7 rebounds, while Malene Pedersen drops 11.9 points per game.

The Wolf Pack had a 15-point lead cut to one with 3:40 remainingm but regrouped for a 78-69 win over visiting Utah State on Saturday. Lexie Givens finished with 16 points and 10 rebounds, while Audrey Roden and Victoria Davis each netted 14 points. Givens averages 12.4 points and 6.7 boards and Davis scores 10.2 points per game.

Wyoming is 24-9 in the all-time series, including a 14-1 mark in Laramie, and has won the last four meetings. Last year’s lone matchup was a 59-52 win for the Cowgirls at home on Feb. 3.
