North Texas, the No. 2 seed in the NIT’s Dallas Region, hosts No. 3 seed Arkansas State on Sunday night.

North Texas (25-8), the second seed in the Dallas Region of the NIT, hosts No. 3 seed Arkansas State (25-10) at The Super Pit in Denton, Texas on Sunday night in a second round matchup. The winner advances to the quarterfinals for a matchup either at top seed SMU or hosting No. 4 seed Oklahoma State on Tuesday or Wednesday. The Mean Green were the second seed at the American Athletic Conference tournament, losing to No. 3 UAB in the semifinals, while the Red Wolves — the fourth seed in the Sun Belt Conference — lost to Troy in the tournament championship game.

North Texas pulled away from visiting Furman in the second half on Wednesday night for a 75-64 first round victory. Jasper Floyd finished with 19 points and seven assists, while Atin Wright added 18 points and three steals. Wright leads the team with 15.2 points per game, with Brenen Lorient putting up 12.1 points a night and Moulaye Sissoko averaging 7.7 points and 6.4 rebounds.

Arkansas State shot 45.7 percent from three-point range and blew out visiting Saint Louis in its first round win on Tuesday night. Izaiyah Nelson went for 26 points, 10 rebounds and four steals and Taryn Todd contributed 21 points and seven assists in the rout. Todd paces the squad at 14.8 points per game, with Joseph Pinion netting 12.3 points per contest and Nelson averaging 10.5 points and 8.7 boards.

The Mean Green are 22-19 all-time in the series, but the teams haven’t met since Feb. 28, 2013. Ross Hodge is 44-23 in his second season at North Texas, which lost in the second round of last season’s NIT. Bryan Hodgson has a 45-27 mark in his second season leading the Red Wolves, who reached the semifinals of the College Basketball Invitational in 2024.
