Illinois State looks to stop a 2-game skid when it hosts Pacific at the CEFCU Arena on Saturday night. Watch live on Fubo.

Illinois State (4-4) comes off a loss in its Missouri Valley Conference opener on Wednesday, returning to non-conference action when it hosts Pacific (5-5) at the CEFCU Arena in Normal, Illinois, on Saturday night. The Tigers are 0-4 on the road this season and last played in the postseason in the 2014 CIT after playing in the 2013 NCAA tournament. Pacific was 6-26 last season and fired coach Leonard Perry with one game left in the campaign. The Redbirds haven’t seen the postseason since the 2017 NIT and their last March Madness trip came in 1998. They finished last season at 15-16.

Illinois State lost on an overtime buzzer-beater on Wednesday, falling at Belmont 99-97. Dalton Banks forced overtime with a 3-pointer with 17 seconds left in regulation after the Redbirds erased a 13-point deficit. Caden Boser scored 17 points off the bench while Johnny Kinziger and Chase Walker dropped in 16 points apiece. Kinziger puts in 14.4 points per game, with Walker averaging 13.3 points and 6.0 rebounds.

The Tigers couldn’t sustain a strong first half in a 75-66 loss at Colorado on Monday night. Elias Ralph had 24 points with Elijah Fisher putting in 17. Ralph averages 18.0 points and 7.8 rebounds, Fisher scores 17.3 points per game and Lamar Washington books 10.8 points and 7.0 assists a night.

The Redbirds are 4-3 against Pacific and have won the last two meetings, most recently a 64-63 road win on Jan. 4, 1998. Ryan Pedon is 30-42 in his third year at Illinois State while Tigers coach Dave Smart came to campus after a year as an assistant at Texas Tech.
