Atlantic 10 play will continue on Wednesday night when Saint Joseph’s and Duquesne meet in men’s college basketball action.

The Saint Joseph’s Hawks will take a trip west to Pittsburgh on Wednesday night for an Atlantic 10 matchup against the Duquesne Dukes at UPMC Cooper Fieldhouse. After winning the conference tournament last season, the Dukes have gotten off to a slower start this year and bring an overall record of 6-9 into Wednesday’s game with a conference record of 1-1 which puts them in an eight-way tie for second place in the standings. The team’s last game took place in North Carolina against Davidson and resulted in the Dukes’ first conference loss in a 77-71 defeat. Jahsean Corbett scored 29 points to lead all scorers, but as the only Duke in double figures, the team could not keep the Wildcats close enough to force overtime at the end despite having a four-point lead at halftime.

The Hawks are also involved in that eight-way tie for second place in the conference standings, but the result of Wednesday’s game will shake up the table a bit. Saint Joseph’s traveled to Missouri over the weekend to play Saint Louis, the result being a tough 73-57 loss to bring the Hawks’ overall record to 10-5. Rasheer Fleming led the team in scoring with 13 points and also pulled down a team-high 10 rebounds to earn a double-double in the loss. The Hawks struggled with their shooting, finishing the game at 32 percent from the field and just 15 percent from beyond the arc. They performed far better from the line at 73 percent, but it still wasn’t enough to keep the Billikens within striking distance.

Duquesne and Saint Jospeh’s have met a total of 20 times in their history and the Dukes hold a slight advantage in the all-time series at 11-9. The teams met twice last season and split the results with the Hawks winning in a narrow 71-69 victory at home before the Dukes earned a 10-point 66-56 win in Pittsburgh later in the season.
