Both teams come into the game at Brayboy Gymnasium in Charlotte at 6-7 in the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association as the conference tournament approaches in less than two weeks. The Bears won the first meeting 87-86 on a pair of free throws by Dee Barnes with 0.5 second remaining. Shaw last played in the NCAA Division II tournament in 2012, advancing to the regional final, while the Golden Bulls’ last NCAA tourney bid ended with a first-round loss in 2009.

Johnson C. Smith picked up its third win in four games on Tuesday, taking a 75-56 decision at Winston-Salem State. Christopher Ealy scored 17 points while Jamauri Bryant came off the bench for 11. Ashton Sherrell leads the team at 15.7 points per game, with Bryant netting 13.4 points a night and Asa White averaging 9.7 points and 5.8 rebounds.

The Bears have dropped four in a row since beating the Golden Bulls, taking a 94-80 loss at Claflin on Wednesday night. Dreveon Scott and Jermaine Vereen each scored 14 points in the defeat while Barnes and Elijiah Scranton knocked down 13 apiece. Trent McIntyre gets 16.3 points per game, with Scott posting 11.9 points per outing and Scranton averaging 8.8 points and 6.3 boards.

Shaw has won the last two meetings between the teams and four of the last five. Antwain Banks is serving as interim coach for the Golden Bulls after the program parted ways with Steve Joyner after 36 seasons. Bobby Collins is in his fourth season with the Bears and is 50-52 in that span.
