South Carolina will look to pull off an upset over Arkansas on Wednesday in the first round of SEC Tournament play.

The 16th-seeded South Carolina Gamecocks will take on the ninth-seeded Arkansas Razorbacks on Wednesday afternoon, as SEC Tournament play begins at Bridgestone Arena in Nashville, Tennessee. The Gamecocks barely made it into postseason play after posting an overall record of 12-19 and a conference record of 2-16 at the end of regular season play. The team is on a two-game losing streak with the most recent being a 75-65 loss to No. 4 Tennessee on Saturday. The Gamecocks looked to Jamarii Thomas offensively and he delivered with a 20-point performance, while Nick Pringle and Zachary Davis also finished in double figures with 16 and 10 points, respectively. The team ended up shooting 35 percent from the field and 22 percent from long range, which wasn’t enough to compete with the strength of the Volunteers.

The Razorbacks fared much better in regular season play, finishing with an overall record of 19-12 and a conference record of 8-10. The team won its last two games of SEC play with the finale being a narrow 93-92 victory over No. 25 Mississippi State on Saturday. D.J. Wagner led the Razorbacks offense with 24 points, while Jonas Aidoo came off the bench to add an additional 21 points to the scoreboard. Trevon Brazile earned a double-double in the win by scoring 11 points and pulling down a team-high 11 rebounds, all of which were defensive. Aidoo also finished with a double-double after grabbing 10 rebounds to help keep possession. The team finished the game shooting 55 percent from the field and 42 percent from three-point range, numbers that served them well in the ranked win.

South Carolina and Arkansas met once in conference play this season and the Gamecocks picked up a 72-53 win, one of only two SEC victories. Tune in on Wednesday afternoon to see if the Gamecocks can do it again to advance in the SEC tournament.
