Iowa looks to wrap up a 3-0 start in the Kenny Arnold Classic finale on Tuesday against visiting South Dakota
Iowa (2-0) dedicated its first three games of the season to Kenny Arnold, a guard from the Hawkeyes’ 1980 Final Four team who died in 2019, and on Tuesday night, it can wrap up a 3-0 start in the Kenny Arnold Classic when it hosts South Dakota (3-0) in the final game of the event. The Coyotes opened with three victories last week, including wins are home over fellow Classic participants Texas A&M Commerce and Southern. Iowa played in last season’s NIT, finishing 19-15, and coach Fran McCaffery is 282-191 in his 15th season with seven NCAA tournament bids. South Dakota has not reached March Madness since moving up to Division I in 2008 and coach Eric Peterson is 26-39 in his third season.

The Hawkeyes took care of Southern 89-74 on Thursday night behind 22 points off the bench fron Pryce Sandfort. Payton Sandfort added 17 points and seven assists and Owen Freeman tossed in 15 points.
The Coyotes played on Sunday afternoon, blowing out visiting NAIA foe Mount Marty 77-47. Shey Eberwein led the way with 15 points while Isaac Bruns added 11 points. Cameron Fens and Ashton Smith each blocked three shots.
Iowa is 12-0 all-time against South Dakota, with the last win coming on March 15, 2017. The Hawkeyes knocked the Coyotes out of the NIT with an 87-75 first-round win at home. Payton Sandfort leads Iowa through two games with 37 points, 19 rebounds and 14 assists while Pryce Sandfort has 35 points. Chase Forte paces South Dakota, averaging 14.7 points per game, with Isaac Bruns putting up 12.0 points a night and Paul Bruns posting 10.7 points and 5.7 boards.
