The top two finishers in the Southland Conference face-off on Wednesday for the tournament title as Lamar takes on McNeese.

McNeese (26-6) ran its winning streak to 10 games on Tuesday as it earned a spot in the Southland Conference tournament championship game. On Wednesday, the top-seeded Cowboys take on No. 2 seed Lamar (20-12) on their home court at The Legacy Center in Lake Charles, Louisiana, with the winner earning the conference’s automatic bid to the NCAA tournament. McNeese finished 19-1 in Southland play, while the Cardinals were 14-6. The Cowboys are seeking their first back-to-back trip to the Big Dance, while Lamar last played in the NCAA tournament in 2012.

McNeese broke away from No. 4 seed Northwestern State with a 16-2 first-half run en route to an 83-64 victory in Tuesday’s semifinal matchup. Javohn Garcia paced the attack with 24 points, while DJ Richards Jr. added 14. Garcia leads the team at 13.0 points per game, Sincere Parker scores 12.2 points a night and Joe Charles averages 9.0 points and 7.1 rebounds.

The Cardinals came back from 10 points down early in the second half, taking the lead for good with 44 seconds remaining when Ja’Sean Jackson’s steal set up the go-ahead layup by Adam Hamilton in their 58-55 win over No. 3 seed Nicholls on Tuesday. Alexis Marmolejos finished with 17 points and five steals, Danquez Dawsey scored 11 points and Andrew Holifield blocked four shots. Marmolejos gets 14.4 points per game, Jackson puts up 12.0 points per game and Hamilton averages 9.4 points and 7.0 boards.

The Cowboys have won the last five meetings with Lamar, including a 75-64 victory at home on Jan. 18 and a 68-66 road win on March 1, while the Cardinals maintain a 50-48 edge in the all-time series.
