Top-seeded McNeese plays its first game in more than a week when it meets Northwestern State on Tuesday

McNeese (25-6) stormed to the Southland Conference regular-season title, losing just one game en route to a 19-1 record and winning the championship by five games. On Tuesday, the Cowboys come off their double-bye to face No. 4 seed Northwestern State (16-15) in a conference tournament semifinal matchup on their home floor at The Legacy Center in Lake Charles, Louisiana. McNeese is looking for its second straight NCAA tournament bid while the Demons last played in the Big Dance in 2013. Tuesday’s winner faces the winner of the later semifinal between third-seeded Nicholls and No. 2 seed Lamar in Wednesday’s championship game.

Micah Thomas buried a 3-pointer with 17 seconds left to lift Northwestern State to a 66-63 win over No. 5 seed Texas A&M-Corpus Christi on Monday night after the Demons squandered a 16-point lead. Love Bettis led the attack with 17 points, with Thomas contributing 15 points and Willie Williams snaring 13 rebounds. Addison Patterson leads the team with 13.1 points per game, Thomas scores 12.2 points a night and Williams averages 6.0 points and 7.5 boards.

The Cowboys last played on March 3, taking a 95-64 victory at Stephen F. Austin. Sincere Parker scored 22 points while Joe Charles added 15. Javohn Garcia drops 12.6 points per game, with Parker getting 12.4 points per contest and Charles averaging 9.0 points and 7.0 rebounds.

McNeese is 73-69 in the all-time series after a 92-69 road win on Jan. 6 and a 65-50 win at home on Feb. 8. Will Wade is 47-8 in his second season coaching the Cowboys while Rick Cabrera has a 25-38 mark in his second season at Northwestern State.
