The Providence Friars will welcome the St. John’s Red Storm to the Amica Mutual Pavilion – on Friday night for a Big East matchup as the teams look to stay toward the top of the conference standings. The Friars come into Friday night’s game with an overall record of 7-5 and a Big East record of 1-0 so far.

On Saturday, the team played St. Bonaventure and suffered a surprising 74-70 loss at the 2024 Hall of Fame Showcase. The Bonnies took a nine-point lead into the locker room and the Friars were never able to recover fully. Wesley Cardet Jr. led the team in scoring with 13 points, but the Bonnies shut down Jayden Pierre who has been the Friars leading scorer this season with an average of 12.7 points per game. The Bonnies held him to 12 points, while Corey Floyd Jr. added 10 points to the scoreboard. The team will look to bounce back from that loss and move to 2-0 in Big East play with a win on Friday night.

The Red Storm bring a four-game win streak into Friday night’s contest for an overall record of 9-2. The team’s most recent game was played against DePaul on Tuesday and it won handily in an 89-61 victory at home. RJ Luis Jr. scored a game-high 19 points and Kadary Richmond finished right on his tail with 18 points. Simeon Wilcher and Zuby Ejiofor were also in double figures with 16 and 12 points, respectively. Richmond and Ejiofor each pulled down seven rebounds to lead on the boards and held the team hold onto possession. The Red Storm shot an impressive 55 percent from the field against the Blue Demons, but could use some work from long range as they only went 3-for-10 from the three-point line.

St. John’s and Providence have met 22 times in their histories. Last season, the teams split results, with St. John’s winning its home game by a narrow two-point margin in a 75-73 victory and Providence winning its home game, also by a narrow margin in a 75-72 win.
