Stonehill and Providence will both look to add their second win of the season to their record when they meet Saturday night.

The Skyhawks come into Saturday’s contest with a record of 1-1 so far. The team opened the season with an 81-62 win over Framingham State before losing to Notre Dame in a tough 89-60 loss on Wednesday. Three players finished the game in double figures offensively for the Skyhawks, led by Todd Brogna who had 16 points. Ethan Meuser and Louie Semona each added 11 points to the scoreboard. Meuser led on the boards with five rebounds in the loss. The team struggled with shooting, ending the game at 30.4% from the field and 35.5% from beyond the arc. The Skyhawks did perform well from the line at 83.3%, but they will need to find a way to improve in those other areas as the season progresses.

The Friars opened up their season against Central Connecticut on Monday night and made it out with a close 59-55 victory at home. Bensley Joseph paced the offense with a big 21-point performance and was the only Providence player in double figures. Jayden Pierre may have only scored seven points in the game, but with four of them coming in the final 90 seconds, he was a crucial piece of the offensive puzzle. Wesley Cardet and Christ Essandoko each pulled down seven rebounds to lead on the boards. The team’s perseverance in the final few minutes to earn that first win gave fans a preview of what they can expect this season.

Stonehill and Providence have only met once in the programs’ histories and that game was played in 2022. The Friars won handily in a 100-76 victory at home.
