Western Athletic play continues on Saturday night as Grand Canyon hosts Tarleton State in men’s college basketball action.

The Tarleton State Texans will take a trip to Arizona on Saturday for a game against the Grand Canyon Antelopes as the teams square-off in Western Athletic action at Global Credit Union Arena. The Antelopes are currently in third place in the conference standings with a Western Athletic record of 2-1 and an overall record of 12-5. On Thursday, the team hosted Abilene Christian, winning handily in an 88-58 victory in front of 7,000 fans. Duke Brennan led the team’s offense with a 16-point performance and four other Antelopes joined him in double digits. Brennan also led on the boards with 10 rebounds to earn a double-double in the win.

The Texans are just above the Antelopes in the conference table with a Western Athletic record of 3-1 and an overall record of 8-11. On Thursday night, the Texans hosted California Baptist, playing to a 67-57 win at home. Freddy Hicks came off the bench to score 15 points, leading the team in scoring just ahead of Dantwan Grimes who added 13 points to the scoreboard. Bubu Benjamin and Jordan Mizell each pulled down six rebounds to hold onto possession. While the team shot 44 percent from the field, it struggled from long range, only sinking three shots from beyond the arc.

Tarleton State and Grand Canyon have met six times in their history and the Antelopes currently hold a 4-2 lead in the series. The teams met twice last season and split the games with the Antelopes earning a 74-48 win in the first game and the Texans earning a narrow 77-74 win in the second meeting.
