Chaz Lanier and No. 6 Tennessee will take the court against an in-state and SEC rival, Vanderbilt, on Saturday afternoon.

Tennessee, the No. 6 ranked team in the country in men’s college basketball, will travel to Nashville, Tennessee, to in-state and Southeastern Conference rival. There, they will face off with Vanderbilt at the Memorial Gymnasium. The Tennessee Volunteers are 16-1 overall this season and 3-1 against teams in the SEC, arguably the hardest conference in college basketball. They have played four games in January thus far and three of the four have been against AP Top 25 ranked teams. They opened up with a win over former No. 23 Arkansas, winning by 24 points.

After the win, they went on the road to No. 5 ranked Florida and lost their first game of the season in dramatic fashion by 30 points. They did bounce back, beating Texas on the road by four points and former No. 23 Georgia at home by 18 points heading into this weekend. Player of the Year candidate Chaz Lanier leads Tennessee in scoring this season, averaging 18.2 points and 3.3 rebounds per game.

Vanderbilt is 14-3 overall this season and 2-2 against conference teams as one of the seven teams in the conference that isn’t in the top 25. They started 2025 with an eight-point win on the road against LSU led by a 22-point performance from Cam Carter. They dropped a game to former No. 14-ranked Mississippi State after that by 12 points.

They made it back-to-back losses by dropping another game to Missouri by nine points last weekend. They bounced back winning their second conference game, beating South Carolina by three points at home earlier this week. Jason Edwards leads Vanderbilt in scoring this season. The junior guard is averaging 17.0 points per game on 45% shooting from the field.
