NC State hopes to use its leverage at home and avoid losing three in a row when it hosts Texas looking to win its seventh straight.

Texas is off to a strong start to open the season when they travel to Raleigh, NC to take on NC State in a double-header of the SEC-ACC Challenge on ESPN2. The Longhorns are 6-1 after coming off a UKG Legends Classic championship last week. Texas has won six games in a row after dropping the season opener against Ohio State in the Hall of Fame Series Las Vegas Opening Night. Texas has been very strong at home winning its first four contests and last Friday night was no exception beating Delaware State big 90-68.

Freshman Tre Johnson was a big standout with the win scoring a game-high 21 points and Kadin Shedrick backed him up with a strong game securing a double-double with 14 points and a game-high 11 rebounds. Texas never trailed in the game which is the third such occasion this season. The Longhorns have scored at least 89 points in each of their home games this season but this road test will present a completely new challenge on the road against a very formidable Wolf Pack team who has yet to lose at home.

NC State started the season 5-0 but have lost back-to-back games on a neutral site in part of the Rady Children’s Invitational. The Wolf Pack lost both games in the invitational including their last one which ended in a 72-61 loss against BYU. NC State didn’t have the shooting game its used to, shooting a season-low 37 percent against the Cougars. BYU got up by 11 in the first half and didn’t look back even though NC State was markedly better in the second half.

BYU scored four threes to open the second to put the game away early. Michael O’Connell and Jayden Taylor both led the team with 16 points. NC State is going to have to start much quicker and efficiently to pull off this upset even though the Wolf Pack are at home.
