Primo Spears and UTSA will open conference play in the AAC against Kaleb Banks and Tulane at the Devlin Fieldhouse on Saturday.

UTSA will travel to New Orleans, Louisiana, on Saturday evening for an American Athletic Conference battle in men’s college basketball against Tulane on their home court at the Devlin Fieldhouse. The UTSA Roadrunners (6-6, 0-0) enter their first conference game after barely making it out of their non-conference schedule with a .500 record. They lost three of those games straight in November against Bradley, Little Rock, and Troy. They lost the others in December against better opponents like Saint Mary’s, Arkansas, and Army.

It wasn’t all negative, though, they picked up a big win against Trinity TX by 26 points and beat Merrimack and Houston Christian in a row to start a winning streak. They were able to get the best of North Dakota in back-to-back games in December as well. Despite the team’s struggles, Primo Spears leads UTSA in scoring this season, averaging 22.3 points per game, No. 5 in all of the NCAA D1 athletes.

The Tulane Green Wave (7-7, 1-0) have already started off the conference play with a win in the AAC when they took down Charlotte at the end of 2024. They ended non-conference play with a losing record though at 6-7. They dropped several games in November that they should have won, including a one-point loss to Wyoming, an overtime loss to New Orleans, and a game against Furman.

They won three of their six games in December, taking down Southern Miss and Dillard non-conference, although they also lost to SE Louisiana and George Mason. Kaleb Banks leads Tulane in scoring this season, averaging 18.2 points and 8.2 rebounds per game as a 6-foot-8 junior from Georgia.
