The entire 2024-2025 Men’s College Basketball season comes down to Monday night, when one seeds Florida and Houston square off in the National Championship Game in San Antonio.

A champion will be crowned on Monday night at the Alamodome in San Antonio, when Florida (35-4, 14-4 SEC) faces Houston (35-4, 19-1 Big 12) in the 2025 Men’s Basketball National Championship. This is a heavyweight matchup – both of these teams were one seeds in the tournament this year, after winning what were arguably the two toughest conferences in Division-I men’s college basketball during the regular season. Which team will ends its dominant season lifting the trophy?

While both teams were excellent this season, they were both tested during the tournament at times. Florida had to outlast eight seed UConn in a 77-75 win in the second round, then had comeback wins against Texas Tech and Auburn in the Elite Eight and Final Four. On the other side, Houston needed a buzzer beater to beat Purdue in the Sweet 16, then had a historic comeback against Duke on Saturday in its Final Four matchup.

This game pits an elite offensive unit against an elite defense. Florida ranked third in the nation this year averaging 85.3 points per game. Meanwhile nobody allowed fewer points than Houston, which held opponents to 58.5 points per game.

For Florida, this is the first time back in the National Championship Game since the second half of the Gators’ repeat titles in 2006 and 2007. It’s their fourth appearance overall, all coming since 2000.

A Cougars win would mean the first title in program history. Houston has been this far just twice, losing in the National Championship in back-to-back years in 1983 and 1984.
