Javan Simmons and Toledo will take the court in Athens against MAC conference rival Jackson Paveletzke and Ohio on Tuesday.

Toledo will travel to Athens, Ohio, to open this week in a men’s college basketball battle between two Mid-American Conference teams. On Tuesday, they will face off against Ohio at the Convocation Center. The Toledo Rockets are 11-8 overall this season, which includes a 5-2 record against teams in the MAC. They are tied with their opponent, one game back from Miami (Ohio), and two games back from the conference-leading and undefeated in MAC play, Akron. They played two games last week, which opened with a home loss.

Kent State took them down at Savage Arena by 19 points. Javan Simmons led the team with 19 points on 7-of-9 shooting and 5-of-6 from the free-throw line. Simmons also had a team-high seven rebounds in the loss. Last Friday, Toledo traveled to Bowling Green and won by 13 points. Despite giving up 28 points to Marcus Johnson, Sonny Wilson led Toledo to the win with 18 points on 7-of-9 shooting and a team-high four assists.

The Ohio Bobcats are also 11-8 overall this season and are tied with Toledo with a conference record of 5-2. They are a game ahead of Eastern Michigan and two games ahead of Ball State, Kent State, and Central Michigan in the conference. Similar to Toledo, they played two games last week that started with a road loss.

Eastern Michigan got the better of Ohio by seven points last Tuesday despite Jackson Paveletzke scoring a game-high 28 points on 11-of-14 shooting. After the loss, Ohio went back to Athens and won a home game against Kent State by two points. Paveletzke made two free throws with a minute left that would secure the game for Ohio. He finished with another game-high of 15 points on 5-of-7 shooting in the win.
