The No. 1-seeded Anteaters are 30-6 overall heading into this game. They barely missed out on an at-large bid to the NCAA Tournament as one of the first eight out after also losing out on their automatic bid in a loss in the Big West Championship game to UC San Diego. However, with a top seed in the NIT, they started this tournament run against Northern Colorado.

Propelling the team to the second round, UAB handled Santa Clara from the West Coast Conference 88-84. Lendeborg had another dominant performance with 22 points and 11 rebounds with seven assists. Christian Coleman also had 21 points with six rebounds and two assists. Ja’borri McGhee also had a team-high seven assists with 12 points.
