The second-seeded UC Irvine Anteaters will take on the seventh-seeded Cal Poly Mustangs on Friday night as the teams look to claim the final spot in the Big West Tournament championship to be played on Saturday. The Anteaters finished the regular season with an overall record of 27-5 and a conference record of 17-3 to finish in second place in the Big West standings, subsequently receiving a bye until the semifinals. The team brings a five-game win streak into Friday’s game after beating UC Santa Barbara 97-88 in its final regular season game on Saturday. Jurian Dixon paced five Anteaters to double digit finishes with 23 points in the win while Devin Tillis finished closely behind with 21 points. Bent Leuchten added 14 points to the scoreboard and led on the boards with 10 rebounds to earn a double-double in the team’s conference finale.

The Mustangs made it through to the semifinal round after beating third-seeded UC Riverside on Thursday night in a 96-83 victory to improve to 16-18 overall and extend their win streak to five games. UC Riverside’s Isaiah Moses dominated offensively, scoring 30 points to lead all scorers, but the Mustangs used their deep roster to counteract Moses’ strength. Five players finished in double figures with Owen Koonce leading the charge with his 20 points. Jarred Hyder finished right behind with 18 points and Cayden Ward came off the bench to score 14 points and pull down a game-high 13 rebounds to earn a double-double in the quarterfinal win.

Cal Poly and UC Irvine met twice this season and the Anteaters won both games with a 98-89 overtime victory to kick of 2025 and a big time 101-71 victory when the teams met in late January. Tune in Friday night to see if the Mustangs can finally hand the Anteaters a loss when it counts the most.
