Two-time defending national champion UConn (19-9) has had an up-and-down campaign and enters play on Saturday fourth in the Big East Conference at 11-6 with three games remaining. The Huskies visit Providence (12-16) at Amica Mutual Pavilion on Saturday looking to complete a season sweep of the Friars. UConn has played in four straight NCAA tournaments and last season because the first repeat national champion since Florida turned the trick in 2006-07. Providence hasn’t gone to the Big Dance since 2023 and bowed out in the first round of last season’s NIT.

The Huskies bounced back from a Sunday loss with a 93-79 victory over visiting Georgetown in Hartford on Wednesday night. Tarris Reed Jr. came off the bench for 20 points and 10 rebounds while Solo Ball also dropped 20 points in the win. Liam McNeeley leads the team at 15.4 points per game, with Ball scoring 14.9 points a night. Reed averages 9.8 points and 7.0 boards and Hassan Diarra posts 8.3 points and 5.9 assists per outing.

The Friars absorbed their second straight blowout loss on Tuesday in an 82-52 rout at No. 21 Marquette. They shot just 33.9% and turned the ball over 18 times, with Jayden Pierre the lone player to reach double digures with 13 points. Pierre and Bensley Joseph each score 12.9 points per game, with Oswun Erhunmwunse averating 6.3 points and 5.5 rebounds.

UConn is 50-31 in the all-time series and has won the last five meetings, including an 87-84 come-from-behind victory at home on Jan. 5. Coach Dan Hurley is 160-67 in his seventh season with the Huskies while Kim English has a 33-30 mark in his second season at Providence.
