They opened with a home win by six points over San José State before going on the road and losing two straight games to Boise State by 22 points and Colorado State by 22 points. However, earlier this week, they won their biggest game thus far, taking down No. 22 Utah State by three points at home on the back of a team-high 15 points from Jalen Hill, an unlikely hero. Dedan Thomas Jr leads UNLV in scoring, averaging 15.6 points per game.

The San Diego State Aztecs are 11-4 overall this season and are one of those three teams sitting at 4-2 against teams in the MWC. After finishing with seven wins and two losses against non-conference teams, the once AP Top 25-ranked team is 3-1 since the start of the new year. January opened up with a big win on the road against Boise State by eight points on the back of 22 points from Miles Byrd.

They made it back-to-back wins with a low-scoring but big win over Air Force by almost 30 points holding them to 38 total points. The same thing happened to them next, losing to New Mexico by 14 points while only scoring 48 points in the game. Earlier this week, they beat Colorado State by 15 points. Miles Byrd led the team again with 25 points on 8-of-15 shooting.
