With the home team looking to extend its three-game winning streak as the two sides begin conference play, SMU hosts Virginia at Moody Coliseum in Dallas on Saturday. The Mustangs are off to a strong start this season as they’ve won three consecutive games to improve their record to 7-2 overall with a 5-1 mark at Moody Coliseum. SMU has yet to play an ACC game this season, and the same goes for Virginia who opens conference play as well. The Hoos have struggled on the road where they’re 1-3 compared to a perfect 4-0 at home. Overall, Virginia is 5-3 on the season as it comes off a loss to No. 13 Florida earlier this week. This is just the second meeting between these two programs and the first since the 2013 season. Â

Most recently, the Mustangs took care of business in a dominant 101-72 victory over Alabama State in Dallas earlier this week. Kario Oquendo led the way for SMU with 20 points on 7-of-8 shooting, hitting four three-pointers in the win. Chuck Harris, Samet Yigitoglu, and Matt Cross each chipped in 12 points as well.
As for Virginia, the Hoos fell in the ACC/SEC Challenge to No. 13 Florida by a final score of 87-69 in Gainesville on Wednesday night. Elijah Saunders had a team-high 19 points while Issac McKneely scored 12 points to go along with career highs in rebounds (7) and assists (5).
