Jordan Hinds and Bluefield State will take the court against Jacob Cooper and Virginia State in a championship game on Saturday.

Virginia State will take on Bluefield State in the championship game of the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association conference tournament on Saturday night at the CFG Bank Arena in Baltimore, Maryland. The Bluefield State Big Blue ended their season with a 16-10 record overall and a 10-6 record against conference teams in the CIAA. That earned them the 2N ranking going into the tournament. With the outline of the tournament, they didn’t play until the third round when they took on Johnson C. Smith University, who had just beaten Elizabeth City State.

They beat 3S Johnson C. Smith 84-69 on Thursday. Jordan Hinds led the team with 24 points, nine rebounds, and five assists in that win. They moved on to the semifinals to take on the 1S team, Fayetteville State on Friday and beat them in a massive upset 71-65. Both Hinds and Terrell Williams ended with a double-double on the night in the big win that sent this team to the championship.

The Virginia State Trojans entered the CIAA tournament with a 20-8 record overall and a 13-3 record against teams in the conference. That earned them the top seed in the north division which meant with a win in the opening round of the tournament, they would get a bye all the way to the semifinal round.

In the opening round, they took on Bowie State and won 78-72. Jacob Cooper led the team with 15 points, three rebounds, and three assists in the win. In the semifinal round yesterday, they took on Lincoln (PA) and won 66-57. Cooper dominated again with 17 points and nine rebounds, while two other players had 14 points each.
