Tobi Lawal and Virginia Tech will take the court against Andrej Stojakovic and Cal in an ACC showdown on Saturday night.

Virginia Tech will travel across the country to Berkley, California, on Saturday night in an Atlantic Coast Conference showdown. In Berkley, they will take on California at the Haas Pavilion. The Cal Golden Bears (8-7, 1-3) ended their non-conference schedule with a 7-4 record. However, they have had a rough start to their first basketball season in the ACC. They opened conference play in December against Stanford after their SEC/ACC Challenge loss to Missouri. They lost by seven points before winning one of three games in the month.

They went on the road in January to Pittsburgh and Clemson before going back home. They lost to Pitt by 12 points followed by a 12-point loss to Clemson. Their first ACC win came earlier this week back at home against Virginia by 14 points. Andrej Stojakovic led the game with 23 points in the win. He also leads the team in scoring this season, averaging 20.1 points, 4.5 rebounds, and 1.2 blocks per game.

The Virginia Tech Hokies (6-9, 1-3) have also gotten off to a rough start in conference play this month. They played two games against ACC teams in December, getting beat by former No. 18-ranked Pitt by five points and No. 4 Duke by 23 points at the end of 2024. They won their first conference game against Miami at home by one point to open 2025.

Mylyjael Poteat led the team in the win with a game-high 25 points on 10-of-16 shooting. They lost their third game earlier this week against Stanford on the road by 11 points. Tobi Lawal averages just more this season than Poteat. Lawal leads Virginia Tech, averaging 12.3 points, while Poteat averages 10.3 points per game as the only two players averaging double-digits.
