No. 2 seed Gonzaga opens WCC tournament play on Monday in a semifinal matchup with third-seeded San Francisco.

Gonzaga (23-8) springs into action at the West Coast Conference tournament on Monday night. The No. 2 seed earned a bye to the semifinals, where the Bulldogs face third-seeded San Francisco (24-8) at the Orleans Arena in suburban Las Vegas. Gonzaga finished 14-4 in WCC play, while the Dons were 13-5. The Zags have played in the last 25 NCAA tournaments, reaching the NCAA championship game in 2017 and 2021. USF’s last tournament appearance was in 2022 and the Dons are without All-WCC guard Marcus Williams, who is being held out of play amid an inquiry over a potential NCAA rule violation that could affect his eligibility.

San Francisco pulled away from No. 6 seed Washington State for an 86-75 quarterfinal victory on Sunday night. Ryan Beasley, starting in place of Williams, scored a career-high 29 points, while Malik Thomas tossed in 18 and Junjie Wang finished with 10 points and 10 rebounds. Thomas leads the club at 19.1 points per game, with Tyrone Riley IV averaging 9.6 points and 5.9 boards.

Gonzaga last played on March 1, blowing out the Dons 95-75 at the Chase Center in San Francisco. Ben Gregg had 23 points, Nolan Hickman added 17 and Ryan Nembhard tied the school record of 16 assists. Graham Ike averages 17.0 points and 7.4 rebounds, Khalif Battle scores 12.9 points per game and Nembhard posts 10.9 points and an NCAA-best 10.0 assists a night.

The Bulldogs are 76-22 all-time in the series, winning the last 32 meetings with USF. They won the first meeting between the teams this season, 88-77, at home on Feb. 13. Mark Few is 739-151 in his 25th season at Gonzaga, while Chris Gerlufsen has a 67-33 mark in his third season at San Francisco. The winner faces the winner of the earlier semifinal between No. 9 seed Pepperdine and top-seeded Saint Mary’s on Tuesday.
