No. 10 Marquette (7-0) hosts Western Carolina (2-3) on Saturday at Fiserv Forum in Milwaukee in advance of its trip to No. 5 Iowa State for next week’s Big East/Big 12 Battle. The Golden Eagles are 5-0 at home so far with a road win at Maryland and a neutral site victory over Georgia. The Catamounts wrap up a brutal three-game road stretch against Power 5 opponents and have lost each of the first two and are 0-3 against Division I competition.

Marquette last played on Wednesday, hammering visiting Stonehill 94-59. David Joplin went off for 27 points while Kam Jones and Damarius Owens each dropped 14 as no one played more than 25 minutes. Jones averages 19.6 points and 5.7 assists, with Joplin posting 16.9 points and 6.4 rebounds per game.

Western Carolina was thumped at Florida State 91-57 on Tuesday night. Brandon Morgan led the attack with 13 points while Cord Stansberry and Ice Emery dropping in 10 apiece. Vernon Collins blocked three shots. Emery scores 14.2 points per game, Stansberry nets 10.4 points a night and Bernard Pelote averages 8.4 points and 8.0 boards.

The Golden Eagles are 5-0 all-time against the Catamounts, with all five games at home. The most recent matchup resulted in a 90-44 blowout on Nov. 30, 2016. Marquette played in the Sweet Sixteen last season and has gone to the last three NCAA tournaments and coach Shaka Smart is 82-30 since arriving in 2021. Western Carolina’s lone March Madness bid came in 1996 and coach Tim Craft is in his first season at the helm.
