Western Kentucky will travel to Lynchburg, Virginia, on Thursday night in a Conference USA battle in men’s college basketball. In Virginia, they will take on Liberty at Liberty Arena. The Liberty Flames (12-1, 0-0) will head into their conference schedule after dominating their non-conference schedule with 12 wins and only one loss. That one loss this season came at the beginning of November in the Field of 68 Tip-Off event against Florida Atlantic by three points in overtime, despite Kaden Metheny having 19 points.

They only played four games in December after a big nine-game November. They played all four games at home, beating Mississippi Valley State by 37, NC A&T by nine points, St. Andrews by 74 points, and UT Arlington in the WAC/CUSA Challenge game by 23 points. Metheny leads the team in scoring this season, averaging 14.2 points, 2.5 rebounds, and 2.5 assists per game missing just one game this season

The Western Kentucky Hilltoppers (9-4, 0-0) will also take on their first Conference USA opponent of the season on the road tonight. They played six games in December but lost their last game of the month by 48 points to Michigan on the road. That snapped a six-game win streak that they brought into that game and the only game of December that they lost.

They beat Evansville by 14 points on the road before dominating Tennessee State by 24 points at home. They won the next three straight at home against Murray State, Seattle U in the WAC/CUSA Challenge, and lastly, KY Wesleyan. Don McHenry, a senior guard, leads the team in scoring, averaging 18.5 points, 3.0 rebounds, and 1.8 assists per game.
