Wichita State takes on Memphis on Friday afternoon in the first quarterfinal of the AAC Tournament

The Memphis Tigers hit the court on Friday afternoon to take on the Wichita State Shockers. The Tigers won the AAC regular season title with a 16-2 record, which was two games better than North Texas. The Tigers finished the regular season on a five-game winning streak and have 13 of their last 14 games. Their one loss during that time was an 84-79 overtime setback to the Shockers on Feb. 16. They had beat them in their first meeting, but let an eight-point second-half lead slip away in the second game and lost. The Tigers have been led by PJ Haggerty who is scoring 21.2 points per game. Tyrese Hunter is second in scoring at 14.1 points per game. Dan Dainja is leading the team with 7.0 rebounds per game while also scoring 13.7 points per game.

The Shockers earned a trip to the quarterfinals thanks to a 73-68 win over USF on Thurdsay.

The win helped them avoid a second straigiht loss and was just their second win in the last five games.

They finished the regular season at 18-13 overall and 8-10 in the AAC. It was an up and down season for the Shockers as they had two different six-game winning streaks, but they also went through a stretch of seven losses in eight games.

Corey Washington scored 21 points for the Shockers on Thursday to help them beat the Bulls. Washington is now averaging 13.7 points per game which is second best on the team. Xavier Bell is the leading scorer at 14.8 points per game.
