Michigan battles Wisconsin on Sunday afternoon in the Men’s Big Ten Basketball Tournament Championship

The Michigan Wolverines look to win their first Big Ten tournament championship since 2018 when they take on the Wisconsin Badgers on Sunday afternoon. The Wolverines won two straight tournament titles in 2017 and 2018 and then made it back to the finals in 2019, but lost to Michigan State. They are back looking to win their fourth title overall and finish off one of the best turnarounds in Big Ten history. The Wolverines won just three games in the Big Ten last year and finished in last place. This season they went 14-6 and finished tied for second. They had a chance to win the regular season title, but lost their last three regular season games and fell back. They have turned things around in a big way in the tournament as they beat Purdue by 18 in the quarterfinals and then Tre Donaldson hit a last second layup to beat Maryland by one in the semifinals on Saturday. Vlad Goldin and Danny Wolf were great in the win over the Terrapins. Goldin scored 25 and grabbed 10 rebounds, while Wolf scored 21 and had 14 rebounds.

The Badgers will have to find a way to slow the duo down as they try and win their first tournament title since 2015.

They made the championship game last year, but lost to Illinois 93-87. It was their first title game appearance since 2017 when they lost to Michigan.

The Badgers had to win three games to make the championship game after they slid down to the five seed thanks to a loss in the regular season finale to Penn State.

They haven’t let it affect them, though, as they beat Northwestern by seven, UCLA by 16 and then slipped by Michigan State by three on Saturday.

John Tonje has continued to be great in the tournament as he has led the team in scoring in all three games and Saturday he scored 32 points.
