New Mexico looks to get a step closer to the Mountain West crown as it hosts Wyoming on Wednesday night in college basketball.

New Mexico (20-4) leads the Mountain West Conference at 12-1 as it pursues its first regular season conference title in college basketball since 2012-13. On Wednesday night, the Lobos look for their seventh straight victory when they host Wyoming (11-13) at The Pit in Albuquerque where they are 11-1 this season. The Cowboys have lost their last three games and dropped their first meeting with New Mexico 61-53 at home back on Jan. 7. The Lobos won the Mountain West tournament last season for their first NCAA tournament appearance since 2014. Wyoming played in the 2022 edition of March Madness.

New Mexico broke loose for 54 second half points on Saturday in an 88-53 win at Air Force. Donovan Dent scored 25 points, Tru Washington added 16 and Nelly Joseph finished with 14 points and 21 rebounds. Dent averages 19.6 points and 6.5 assists, while Joseph puts up 13.8 points and 11.0 rebounds per game.

The Cowboys never led after halftime in a 68-57 loss to visiting UNLV on Saturday afternoon. Obi Agbim scored 14 points in the game, while Cole Henry had 10 points and six assists. Agbim gets 17.6 points per game and is the team’s lone double-figure scorer, with Jordan Nesbitt averaging 8.7 points and 7.2 boards.

The Lobos lead the all-time series 81-72 and have won the last four meetings. Richard Pitino is 81-45 in his fourth season at New Mexico, while Sundance Wicks, an assistant for Wyoming from 2020-23, returned to the school this season after a year as head coach at Green Bay.
