The No. 3 seed Siena Saints will face-off on Tuesday against the No. 1 seed Merrimack Warriors in the championship game of the Metro-Atlantic Athletic Conference Men’s Basketball Tournament for a chance at a championship and a NCAA automatic bid. The Warriors closed out the regular season with a 73-66 win on the road against Niagara. After finishing as the top team in the MAAC and earning the No. 1 seed, they took down Sacred Hear in the first round, 70-48. Kevair Kenndy delivered a team-high 24 points in the win on 10-for-22 shooting. Ernest Shelton had a near double-double with 18 points and nine rebounds as well. That propelled Merrimack ahead to a semifinal showdown with Marist.

Marist kept the game close, as Merrimack only led by two points at the halftime break. Merrimack also lost the second half by one point to win by only one point, 58-57. Tye Dorset, a sophomore guard, led the team with 23 points and six rebounds, shooting 10-for-17 from the field. Kennedy had 16 points and a team-best four assists as well to squeeze by the No. 5 seed.

On the other side, the Saints came in as the No. 3 seed in the tournament after a 13-7 record in the conference, four games back of their opponent. Despite finishing 22-11 overall this season, they squeaked by Mount St. Mary’s in the first round of the tournament in a 63-58 victory. Brendan Coyle shot 6-for-13 from the field, leading the team with 17 points and nine rebounds, including four on the offensive glass.

In the semifinals, Siena matched up with No. 7 seed Fairfield. Siena led by 10 points at halftime, but gave up the pressure in the second half, allowing Fairfield to score 31 second half points on its way to a 76-61 win. Justice Shoats, who averages 13.3 points and 4.4 assists per night, finished with a team-high 26 points on 8-of-15 shooting from the field, while Francis Folefac led the team with nine rebounds and five assists.
