Bold Predictions for Week 1 of the NFL Season

The Chiefs and Lions kicked the NFL season off on Thursday and the rest of Week 1 will continue on Sunday and Monday. With 15 games still to be played and hundreds of players still to take the field, Week 1 is sure to rock the boat in more than one area.

Two Saints receivers top 100 yards.

I debated making this bold prediction as “Derek Carr dominates the Titans”; however, I think that this is more fitting. Chris Olave is the receiver that everyone is hyped about in the gold and black. In his rookie season, he finished with 72 receptions for 1,042 yards and four touchdowns with Andy Dalton and Jameis Winston at QB. Carr fits the scheme perfectly and should fit the ball in better to his receivers. Michael Thomas is also finally back after having a record-setting season in 2019. With the rejuvenated quarterback and a dynamic pair of receivers, both go over 100 yards.

Sam Howell finishes as a top 5 fantasy QB.

There are a handful of quarterbacks who will be the new faces of their respective teams this season, with Washington Commanders QB Sam Howell being one of those. He was able to get some run last year despite not starting. He played and started in just one game and threw for 169 yards and one touchdown on 11 completions. Giving him full reign of the team will be one of the best decisions of the new ownership in Washington, D.C. Howell will also make a great connection with Jahan Dotson, one of the most promising young receivers in the NFL.

J.K. Dobbins tops 100 yards on the ground.

Heading into this third NFL season in the NFL, J.K. Dobbins had yet to come close to 1,000, with just over 800 yards being his best effort. Last year, he finished with 502 yards after starting just eight games. With Dobbins fully healthy, the Baltimore Ravens will unleash the former Ohio State running back to let him prove his worth. With a mix of playing a full season and starting games, he could easily have the best year of his career, and it starts with rushing for over 100 yards in the first week of the season.

Tyler Higbee finishes as a top 2 fantasy TE.

The Los Angeles Rams are bleeding after the news of Cooper Kupp missing this first week of the NFL season and potentially being out long-term. However, with the official announcement of his status for Sunday, Tyler Higbee will step into the limelight and assume the role of the offense’s best pass catcher. The other benefit to this prediction for Higbee to capitalize is the fact that the Chiefs’ Travis Kelce was ruled out on Thursday and Mark Andrews of the Ravens is questionable. That leaves the door open for Higbee to climb high and fast and maybe even be the best tight end in Week 1.
