Only two teams enter Week 5 undefeated, the Eagles and the 49ers. Does either team have a chance at going undefeated this regular season?
With Week 4 now officially in the books, there are only two teams entering Week 5 with a flawless record: the Philadelphia Eagles and the San Francisco 49ers. Two teams from the NFC that met in the NFC championship game last season with the Eagles winning that matchup after Brock Purdy got injured and Christian McCaffrey took over at QB. The Eagles went on to lose to Kansas City in the Super Bowl. Does either one of these undefeated teams have a realistic chance of going 17-0 heading into the playoffs?

Philadelphia Eagles
Last year, the Philadelphia Eagles were on pace for an undefeated season before losing their first game to a far inferior Washington Commanders team in Week 10. For some reason, the Commanders seem to get the best of Philadelphia each season. The team went on to go 13-1 heading into the last three games of the season. Having already secured the No. 1 seed and unable to go undefeated, Jalen Hurts sat in Week 16 and 17 in which Gardner Minshew lost both games before Hurts came back and won in Week 18.
The Eagles have not played the top talent on their schedule this season. However, they did get a hard-fought, much-needed win over the division rival Washington last week. They also have wins over the Patriots, Vikings and Buccaneers. In the next two games, they play the 2-2 Rams and the Aaron Rodgers-less Jets which should be two more good wins before the competition starts. In the next five weeks, they play two division games, which are arguably the hardest for any team, against Washington and the Cowboys. They also take on Tua Tagovailoa and the Dolphins, Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs, Josh Allen and the Bills, and CMC and the 49ers.
Their season ends out with Dallas, Seattle, New York twice and Arizona. They have a real chance at going undefeated if they make it past the 49ers.

San Francisco 49ers
The San Francisco 49ers might have had an actual chance to beat Philadelphia in the NFC championship game last season if it held a third quarterback on the roster. However, when Brock Purdy went down with an injury, it was running back Christian McCaffrey who took over and inevitably lost the game.
This season, the 49ers have beaten the Steelers, Rams, Giants and Cardinals. Looking through the team’s schedule, their hardest competition will be against the Bengals, Eagles and Cowboys. With Dallas on the schedule this week, they could very easily not make it undefeated one more week. However, with the way Cincinnati is playing, the Eagles will be their only other tough competition.
With the two teams playing each other, it is impossible, barring a tie, that both of these teams go 17-0. It will most definitely be the NFL Game of the Year if both teams enter their game against each other undefeated and that game settles who still has the chance and who doesn’t.
