Fantasy Football Start’em or Sit’em: Week 2

With Week 1 in the books, we evaluate our sit and start decisions of last week. We told you to sit Jaxon Smith-Njigba which would have been a good decision seeing as he had three receptions for 14 yards and only 4.30 fantasy points in PPR. We also told you to sit Aaron Rodgers which proved to be a stellar move as he only played four snaps before tearing his Achilles and being sidelines for the rest of the season. We did wiff on our starters as well as Higbee only had 7.90 fantasy points and Jamaal Williams 7.20.

Here are your start’em and sit’em takes for Week 2.

Sit: Brandon Aiyuk, 49ers, WR

Brandon Aiyuk had an outrageous game for his team in Week 1. He looked like the clear lead receiver, Purdy’s favorite target, and an asset to the team. He finished as the WR2 to Tyreek Hill. However, Aiyuk put up eight receptions on eight targets for 129 yards and two touchdowns on an 85% snap share. Aiyuk is a great receiver, but you can not expect 32.90 fantasy points as a consistent mark. People will be eager to force him into their lineups if they had him on the bench last week, and with a tougher opponent in the Rams, I don’t think it will be a high payoff towards some of the other flex options.

Start: Travis Etienne, Jaguars, RB

On a team that was projected to see a running back room by committee with Travis Etienne and Tank Bigsby, Etienne played in 80% of snaps which was third to only CMC and James Conner on the Week for running backs. He took 18 carries for 77 yards and a touchdown while pulling in five receptions for 27 yards. He finished as the RB6 and with a snap count and rushing attempt numbers that he had, he could be in for a big workload this season with Trevor Lawrence.

Sit: Tyler Allgeier, Falcons, RB

For the same reason I sat Aiyuk, I am sitting Tyler Allgeier. He will be extremely coveted and after his monster Week 1 performance, will be forced into flex spots over some highly-valuable players. Allgeier ran 15 times for 75 yards and two touchdowns in Atlanta’s win over Carolina. He finished with 24.40 fantasy points and was the RB4 on the week with guys like Christian McCaffrey, Tony Pollard and Austin Ekeler. Bijan Robinson didn’t far fall behind with 10 attempts for 56 yards and six receptions for 27 yards and a touchdown. As Robinson gets his feet wetter, I expect him to overtake Allgeier in snap share.

Start: Jordan Love, Packers, QB

With many star quarterbacks like Joe Burrow, Josh Allen, and Jalen Hurts struggle, Jordan Love came out as the QB3 on the week behind Tua Tagovailoa and Mac Jones. Love was one of the most anticipated starts quarterbacks this week, and he did not disappoint with 245 yards and three touchdowns without an interception. He finished with a 123.2 passer rating which was the best in the NFL. Love will get a tougher Atlanta secondary in Week 2, but he will also hopefully get his star receiver, Christian Watson, back.
