The Los Angeles Chargers look like the best team in the stacked AFC West, when they host the Denver Broncos in the late afternoon on Sunday. The Chargers are looking for a 3-0 start to the season, as they’ve already beat two division opponents. Los Angeles beat the Kansas City Chiefs in an impressive performance in Brazil to help open the season, and beat the Las Vegas Raiders on the road comfortably in a Monday Night Football doubleheader last week. If the Chargers beat the Broncos today, not only will it be three straight division opponent wins, it will be the Chargers’ first 3-0 start since 2002. That year, Drew Brees and Doug Flutie were in the QB room. The Broncos are coming off a very tough loss in a game they probably thought they should have won against the Indianapolis Colts. The Broncos will have a tough test on the road today to try and improve to 2-1, and get their first division win of the season. This is expected to be a close match-up though, as the Chargers hold the -2.5-point spread at home.

The Chargers were undaunted on the road traveling to the Death Star in Las Vegas winning on Monday Night Football 20-9 against the Raiders. The Los Angeles defense held strong, not letting Geno Smith and company to reach the endzone. Many sports talk shows were debating whether Ashton Jeanty as the LA defense held the Las Vegas running back to just 11 carries and 43 yards. Smith threw just 180 yards and three interceptions in his home debut for Las Vegas. Justin Herbert meanwhile was in control with 242 passing yards and two scores. He did lead the team in rushing yards though with 31. So the duo of Omarion Hampton and Najee Harris are going to have to find a way to ramp it up today against this stout Denver defense.

There is a formula against this Denver defense though, as Indianapolis found it last week in a 29-28 gut-wrenching victory for Broncos fans. Jonathan Taylor rushed for 165 yards on 25 carries. The Broncos lost the game technically when Colts kicker Spencer Shrader missed a 60-yard field goal that initially would have given Denver the win with time expired. But the Broncos were called for a 15-yard penalty and Shrader didn’t miss again from there to walk off the game, and give the Colts their first 2-0 start since 2009. But the Broncos only scored once in the second half, and made Daniel Jones look drastically better than the QB that was let go by the New York Giants. The Denver defense kept them in their opening game against the Tennessee Titans. Bo Nix looked better against Indy throwing for three touchdowns. But both sides of the ball are going to have to set a higher standard, in order to pull off this upset against their toughest opponent yet this season.
